Ministry to people in their place of work has a long history in the church. Since the Second World War clergy and lay people from different denominations have visited people in their place of work exercising a pastoral and prophetic ministry. Chaplains have pursued issues raised within the workplace and sought to help the Church understand the realities within the world of work.
Workplace chaplains work in a variety of ways linking faith, worship and daily life, by regularly visiting people in their workplace. There is often an opportunity to encourage people to deepen their understanding of the relationship between the Christian faith and the economic order. In the contemporary world the church is concerned not just with individuals but with issues that shape our daily lives.
There are already lay and ordained chaplains from different denominations in workplaces all over Cornwall.
If you would like to explore the possibility of joining them (especially if you are in the Bodmin area) please contact Jill Edwards email jill.edwards@truro.anglican.org

Who is Catch the Fire?
CTF was founded from Toronto Airport Christian Fellowship by John and Carol Arnott, and the same vision was then pioneered in the UK in 2005 through Nicola Tancock.
Our Vision:
Is to walk in God’s love and give it away until the whole earth is filled with the glory of the Lord!
How We Walk This Vision Out:
By being immersed in the love, grace and presence of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit; experiencing freedom through the healing of life’s hurts and pursuing intimacy with God through worship, prayer, soaking in His presence and loving His Word.
We:
Empower all to carry the good news of the Kingdom to their nation and to the world in the power of the Spirit and with Fire! Build lasting relationships that change the world.
Have fun! (Philippians 4:4)
Our aim is to raise up ordinary people to take their God-given gift to the nations and see signs, wonders, and miracles in the physical body as well as seeing people’s hearts healed.
“Soaking is intimate time spent with Jesus! It is you and I enjoying just being with Him. It’s about returning to our first love.
We’re praising God for this new opportunity to equip you to effectively bring His Kingdom into your home, your church, and your Soaking Prayer Centre.”

Heavy monsoon rains have triggered the floods which have so far killed at least 1,600 people, displaced a further 2 million and affected around 14 million overall. The UN has suggested the flooding has now affected more people than the tsunami in 2004, the earthquake in Pakistan in 2005 and the earthquake in Haiti earlier this year combined. The extraordinary deluge is likely to continue for the next few days, spreading fear that many more people will have their lives devastated by the country’s worst floods since 1929.
The seasonal monsoon rains have caused rivers to burst their banks triggering floods in the north of the country. As the monsoon has continued floodwaters have developed, and have surged south, wreaking over 600 miles of destruction from the northern provinces of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab, through to the southern province of Sindh, where evacuations are currently under way.
With the true extent of the damage only now becoming clear, a massive relief effort is under way. Entire villages, roads, bridges and railway tracks have been washed away or totally destroyed, leaving many communities completely cut-off without food or clean water. Many have been left further isolated by the devastating landslides that have occurred as a result of the floods, trapping thousands of people in submerged areas.
International agencies have rushed to supply aid, and the Pakistani army is coordinating the relief efforts with all available troops deployed to deal with the flooding. But the terrible weather conditions are hampering the distribution of aid; even helicopters have been unable to access the Swat valley in the north of the country. In many cases aid workers are improvising by travelling on foot, or by donkey, as water and food shortages worsen each day. Rescue teams are also battling the weather to distribute medicine in order to avoid a cholera epidemic and the spread of other waterborne diseases. There have already been several reported outbreaks, and the slowly receding waters offer a perfect breeding ground for these potentially fatal diseases.
The Disasters Emergency Committee has opened the ‘DEC Pakistan Floods Appeal.’ If you would like to support the appeal, donate now online or call 0370 60 60 900. Watch the Pakistan Floods Appeal below.
The Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) was formed in 1963 as an umbrella organisation for the following member agencies:
ActionAid
British Red Cross
CAFOD
Care International UK
Christian Aid
Concern Worldwide
Help the Aged
Islamic Relief
Merlin
Oxfam
Save the Children
Tearfund
World Vision
At times of overseas emergency, the DEC co-ordinates UK’s aid, funding and broadcasting to ensure that funds raised go to those agencies best placed to deliver effective and timely relief to people most in need. The DEC agencies work together, avoiding duplication.
All money raised will help fund the life saving work in Pakistan and support the efforts of the leading UK aid agencies.

Theme: Migration 2010, keying into the Migration 2010 initiative of the Conference of European Churches and the Churches’ Commission for Migrants in Europe.
Observe a time for creation, between 1 September and 4 October, for the protection of God’s creation and the promotion of sustainable lifestyles. Churches Together in Britain and Ireland has put together a programme of resources to encourage and assist churches to observe a Time for Creation in 2010.
Our theme this year is Creation Flourishing – A time for Celebration and Care, linking into the United Nations International Year of Biodiversity.
The resources are undergirded by the hope we share as Christians, based ultimately in God’s good plans for his creation, the cosmic scope of Christ’s saving work, and the Spirit’s renewing power at work within and through human beings. The CTBI Creation Time material is now available at: www.ctbi.org.uk/creationtime
‘The Spirit of God is moving mightily at a remote place in North Pembrokshire and it bears many of the marks of revival. Lives are being turned upside down as people receive remarkable spontaneous healing whilst others are leaving the dead formalism of religion behind to encounter the God of the Bible. Many are hearing God’s voice for the first time. Teams are going out to Nations, carrying the fire of God. Blessing and transformation are taking place around the us. During the age of the Celtic Saintsthere was a strong link between Pembrokshire and Cornwall, and we long to see a renewed spiritual connection between us for the sake of the Kingdom.
May revival flow and Jesus be glorified for ever’
Roy Godwin author of The Grace Outpouring
Back in 2007 I went body boarding down at St Agnes. I knew the waves were going to be really big as, the night before, the weather man said a hurricane off Florida was going to cause huge swells on the north coast. Confident in my fitness and ability, and with a positive mental attitude, I found myself looking out to sea at huge waves far bigger than the three footers I normally boarded on. I launched myself into the sea and swam out back. I quickly picked up a seven or eight foot wave and had the biggest and best ride ever!
Having ridden one wave I swam out for another. This time a monster wave reared up before me and I knew I would have to dive underneath as I was not ready to ride that wave. The wave caught me before I dived. Hit full on by the roller I was forced down on to the seabed and felt a great weight pinning me down. It was like an age before I felt the pressure release and I let go of my body board and followed it to the surface. As I broke the surface I gulped a quick breath and turned in time to see the next breaker crashing down on me. This one spun me round and round and down – I thought I was in a giant washing machine. The roar was deafening; then the silence as the wave passed over me. My lungs were bursting this time as I hadn’t taken in much breath before the second wave. Somehow I found myself back on the surface, scared rigid and desperate to get back to the beach. I must admit that up until this point I had not prayed, but I did now – not ‘Thank thee Lord for saving me from the perils of the deep’ but ‘blow that for a game of soldiers, Lord!’ and ‘I am never body boarding again’! Neither, as I struggled back to the beach and flopped around like a middle aged beached whale, did I think, ‘Oh this makes for a good sermon outline!’ No, all I wanted to do was get off the beach, go home and have a nice cup of tea! Little did I know this whole experience was, in a way, prophetic for the perfect storm that was about to tear through my life for the next year.
As the storm clouds of circumstance gathered in the distance, and I foresaw the imminent disaster that was heading my way, I began to call on God for deliverance. God being God did not deliver me from the storm but, by The Holy Spirit, led me into a number of Psalms. For a year the Psalmist’s words were as real as Jesus speaking to me in the flesh. The Psalm which resonates still is Psalm 61 ‘Lead me to the rock that is higher than I’.
Jesus lifted me up to sit hidden with Him. He became the truly safe place to be. Cosseted and protected by Him, safe, high up from the battering of circumstance, sheltered under His wings, I was able to act on His words, to deal with the reasons for the storm, and to hear His word as it came through other believers. As the storm subsided I decided I did not, and do not, want to live away from the Rock. I wish to remain hidden in Christ forever. This is the place were Jesus wants all of us to be; lost in His grace, knowing His love and finding His ways for our lives. He will always be there for us, regardless as to whether we caused our own storm; others caused it; or pure chance.
As a post script – I went body boarding two weeks ago for the first time since 2007. Small waves, lots of life guards, loads of tourists and no monster waves!
