GSUS Live – mobile RE for schools

The aim of GSUS Live is to show that Jesus is relevant today. The GSUS Live mobile classroom creates a stimulating environment in which pupils can investigate Jesus’ teachings on forgiveness, fear, and rejection. Classes of secondary school pupils at KS3 take part in a 45-60 minute lesson in a multi-media environment, following the stories of one of three characters. Walk through a typical lesson here. The lessons meet the curriculum requirements for religious education and follow-up lesson plans for teachers are available on the GSUS Live website at http://www.gsuslive.co.uk.

GSUS Live is run by COUNTIES, a Christian charity which provides churches and schools with resources that make Christianity understandable in the 21st Century. They work in partnership with local churches, youth groups and other church organisations to bring GSUS Live to schools across the UK. Each GSUS Live visit is supported by a local volunteer team who help to set up the classroom and present the lessons. COUNTIES also run a mobile exhibition primarily aimed at Key Stage 2 schoolchildren.

The Unit – Skatepark, Launceston

Following several years of frustrated attempts to provide a permanent Skate Park in the town, “The Unit” opened on Sat July 24th 2010. Formerly the DHL Transport Depot the building was transformed, thanks to the hard work of Sam Beazley and Tim Aldridge (Full Time Youth Workers employed by the Launceston Methodist Circuit) and a dedicated team of volunteers. Expert help came from Mike Pechonis, a specialist Ramp Builder from the U.S.A. who built the ramps used at Creation Fest, spent two weeks advising on repair and renewal of the ramps and guidance on the lay out of the interior space. Generous financial help from the Launceston Circuit was a crucial factor in obtaining and finishing the work necessary to open the building.

Facilities available include On Site Pro Shop, Equipment Hire, Chill Out Zone, Refreshments, and Parent Zone. Why not bring your youth group along?  For further detailed information about opening times etc visit the website www.skatetheunit.com or ring 01566 773637, “The Unit” 4 Quarry Crescent, Pennygillam Industrial Estate, Launceston PL15 7HP

Christian Skaters’ night every Tuesday (Free Entry before 7pm) is an opportunity for young people, whatever their background to learn about Jesus Christ through a short Bible Study starting at 7pm followed by a skate session ending at 9.30pm.
