Contemplative Prayer Pilgrimage to Assisi, Italy with Rev’d Daniel Munoz
22nd – 29th March 2017
This will be the eighth trip in this series of bi-annual pilgrimages to Assisi, so the format is now well-honed and those who have been there with us in the past have frequently returned home calling it a ‘life-changing experience’.
We are indeed blessed to have Daniel Munoz, co-owner of Hacienda Los Olivos Retreat House in Andalucía to lead the spiritual input in Assisi this time. Daniel is an Anglican priest, formerly in the Diocese of Oxford and now much in demand for his expertise as a retreat leader.
We stay in en suite accommodation at St Anthony’s Guest House with the Franciscan Sisters of the Atonement in Assisi. Located centrally, it is close to Santa Chiara Basilica and the Sisters look after us beautifully. There is one night in Rome included outward bound and the option of two extra nights there at cost on the return journey.
The Anglican Offices are said (or sung) throughout with a daily Eucharist, and the gentle programme gives the mornings to prayer and instruction, the afternoons to visits around Assisi – this year led by Reverend Canon Olive Stevens who has been with us several times and is a Franciscan Tertiary, and the evenings to eating out together at different restaurants in the town, usually having a lot of fun! But of course, nothing is compulsory.
A day trip to La Verna where St Francis received the stigmata is included in the price, as are flights from Bristol return, transfers by private coach in Italy, accommodation in single rooms in Assisi unless double occupancy preferred, all food (except dinner in Rome on the first night), and gratuities. Hold luggage and alcoholic drinks are not included, single accommodation in Rome is an extra £30, and insurance is compulsory. The price is £950.
The spirit of St Francis pervades Assisi and those who engage with his story and spirituality find new paths in their lives. Daniel’s book Transformed by the Beloved (2014) focuses on his deep knowledge of the 16th Century mystic, St John of the Cross, who was significantly influenced by Teresa of Avila, herself hugely guided by the work and lives of Franciscan friars such as Francis d’Osuna and Peter of Alcantara. This opportunity to be with Daniel in Assisi is not to be missed.
There are just a few places remaining for this trip, and if you are interested in joining us please email email@example.com as soon as possible for more details and a booking form.
