Hi there,

My name is Alex and when I was very young I was diagnosed with a heart problem. I probably was about 2 or 3 years old at the time and I know now that it must have been hard going for my parents as I have a 2 year old called Joshua. So the doctors decided that the best thing for me to do was to have major heart surgery. So when I turned 4 they drove me up from Cornwall to Bath where I was to go to hospital to fix my Coarctation of the aorta.  The good news is that the surgery worked and after hours of waiting and worrying I was fixed. I have grown up normally having regular tests and fitness checkups and at the age of 16 I was signed off as being fit and healthy. Physically I was fixed.

It reminds me of a verse in the Bible.

1 Samuel 16:7

English Standard Version (ESV)

But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.”

At the age of 16 my girlfriend at the time (who is now my wife) invited me along to Church and I was interested. After attending for a while I started to attend a youth worship night called IKON. One night (15th May 2005) I was singing one of the worship songs:

Consuming fire fan into flame,
A passion for Your Name,
Spirit of God fall in this place,
Lord have Your way,
Lord have Your way with us

Hillsong United – Consuming Fire

During the song I felt something in my heart change and for the first time I felt the presence of the Holy Spirit. So I acted on the change in my heart and gave my life to follow Jesus that night.

The heart matters physically we need our hearts to be healthy and to keep us alive but even more importantly our spiritual hearts sometimes need fixing to.

God looks at our hearts not at our outward appearance and he cares for us. Take your heart and let the master physician operate on it today.
