New International Version (NIV)
Salt and Light
13 “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.
14 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
Hillsong are about to release a new album called ” Let there be light” which conjures up images of God calling light into existence in the book of Genesis. It also reminds me of Jesus being the light of the world and the light of our salvation. But in this passage of scripture in Matthew it speaks about us, followers of Christ as being the Salt and Light.
God has blessed us with the privilege and responsibility of being the Salt and Light of the world. In a world that is in need of some taste, some vibrant flavors and for the darkest corners to become illuminated by God’s light.
So for me the phrase “Let there be Light” is really a declaration of heaven coming to earth of light shinning in the darkness and of God’s people, me and you reflecting the fathers heart as we live out our every day lives.
